Geography
Back“The world and all that is in it belong to the Lord.” - Psalm 24:1
Geography helps us understand God’s world, appreciate its diversity and learn how to care for creation to live responsibly as global neighbours.
At St Bernadette School, our bespoke Geography curriculum is designed to inspire curiosity and a sense of wonder about the world and its people. Pupils develop a secure understanding of places, environments and the physical and human processes that shape them, building knowledge progressively from Early Years to Year 6.
Pupils learn to think like geographers by developing both knowledge of the world and the skills to collect, interpret, and communicate geographical information. They make connections between places and processes at a range of scales and understand how the world is interconnected and changing.
Rooted in Catholic Social Teaching, Geography encourages pupils to care for creation by understanding sustainability, the fair distribution of resources, and the impact of human activity on the environment.
From the Early Years Foundation Stage, children explore their immediate environment and begin to make sense of the world around them. In Key Stage 1, pupils develop knowledge of the United Kingdom and the wider world. In Key Stage 2, pupils extend their understanding of global regions, physical and human geography, and develop increasing fluency in geographical skills.
Fieldwork and real-world learning are key features of our curriculum, enabling pupils to apply their knowledge and develop a deeper understanding of their local area and the wider world. This includes a trip to a local country park and a walking tour of London.
By the end of Key Stage 2, pupils are confident geographers who can describe, explain, and evaluate the world around them and their role within it.
