Our Mission, Values and Aims

"Learning with Christ as our guide."

St Bernadette School takes us on a journey of excellence, where we learn to value ourselves and each other with Christ as our guide.

We believe deeply in the dignity of the human person. Every child is created in the image of God, uniquely gifted and deserving of respect, care and opportunity. We celebrate the rich diversity of cultures, languages, and traditions within our school family, recognising that each contributes to the vibrant community we share.

Our curriculum is rooted in Catholic Social Teaching and strengthened by British values as we prepare our pupils to take responsibility for their place in the wider world. We encourage them to act with justice, show kindness, seek truth and stand up for the common good.

We recognise parents as the first and most important educators of their children. In partnership with families, parish, and community, we work together to ensure every child grows in faith, knowledge and love—ready to shape a more hopeful and compassionate world.

At St Bernadette Catholic Primary School, we inspire, teach and nurture every child to become compassionate, confident role models for the future. Guided by the Gospel values of Jesus Christ, we empower our pupils to make responsible choices about how they live their lives and how they contribute to their community—locally, nationally and globally.

Our Values

The values that guide and inspire us in our Christian lives are those given to us in the Gospels. They are our Gospel values.

Taking inspiration from St Bernadette, who lived a life filled with service and love, our values have been chosen by pupils, staff and governors.

Compassionate

In the Gospels, Jesus Christ showed compassion to the sick, the poor, and those who were excluded. Compassion encourages kindness instead of judgement and helps build a caring community where we support one another.

Honest

The Gospel teaches that truth is important because trust is built on honesty. Honest people are dependable and fair. When people are truthful, relationships are strong and people can work together.

Respectful

The Gospel teaches that every person is valuable because all people are created by God. Being respectful means treating everyone with dignity and kindness, even when opinions differ.

Inclusive

Jesus Christ welcomed people from many different backgrounds, including those who were often rejected by society. Our commitment to inclusion ensures that everyone in our community are valued and treated equally and have equity, regardless of differences such as culture, ability, or background.

Supportive

The Gospel teaches people to “love your neighbour.” Being supportive means encouraging and helping others when they struggle.

Thankful

In the Gospels, Jesus Christ often gave thanks, even in difficult situations. Thankfulness helps us focus on what we have rather than what we lack. Being thankful means appreciating the good things in life and showing gratitude to others and to God.

Our Aims

We want every St Bernadette pupil:

  • To celebrate their uniqueness
  • To put faith into action
  • To have high aspirations
  • To love to learn
  • To be a skilful communicator
  • To be healthy and safe
