Children’s social, emotional and mental health development is a key factor when it comes to readiness to learn. We are keen to support, nurture and develop this at St Bernadette in a variety of ways. This is developed firstly through our RSE and PSHE curriculum, which is taught throughout the school from Nursery to year 6.
Living in the Wider world and Health and Well-being.
In addition to this, we have specialist staff and specific interventions for children across the school. Interventions are selected and adapted to each child’s needs.
Zones of regulation is our whole school approach to identify, understand and voice their feelings and emotions.
Mrs Vass works with individual children as a Learning Mentor helping children overcome barriers to learning by working 1:1 with children inside and outside the classroom for targetted periods of time. She is a trained ELSA- (Emotional Literacy Support Assistant)
Our children are also supported by Ms Liddiard our welfare lead in school.
Our wider curriculum offers children invaluable opportunities to learn how to keep their mind and bodies safe from pedestrain training to tranistion workshops for our year 6 in preparation for secondary school, there are a wide range of invaluable opportunities for all children.
