Our commitment to the Arts

Music

We are fortunate to have a specialist music teacher, Mr Nicholls on our staff.

We want our children to feel a lifelong connection with music and provide them with the skills to stand out as confident singers and musicians when they make the transition to secondary school, with a ‘have a go’ attitude when it comes to exploring music.

Singing is at the heart of our musical learning with weekly hymn practices and vocal coaching for every key stage group.

Whole class instrument tuition starts in early years with controlling percussion instruments and we progress through the years with recorder in KS1 and ukulele across KS2 with the new addition of music production using chrome books and digital audio workstation software to give our children the edge in year 7.

Performance at St Bernadette's

There are many opportunities for all children to showcase the amazing talent at St Bernadette School!

All year groups embrace the opportunity through either a class assembly or a special performance which included and are not limited to:

  • Reception Christmas performance
  • Year 2 Christmas nativity
  • Christmas carol concert - school choir and school band
  • Year 4 Easter play
  • Summer music concert - school choir and school band
  • Year 6 End of year production

Throught the year the children enjoy celebrating and sharing key curriculum events such as Black history month through special exhibitions and performances.
