Design Technology
Back“In the beginning, God created the universe.” – Genesis 1:1
Design and Technology reflects our God-given creativity as we imagine, design and make purposeful products while learning to improve and care for the world God has created.
At St Bernadette Primary School, Design and Technology prepares pupils to engage with a rapidly changing world by developing creativity, independence and problem-solving skills as both individuals and members of a team.
Pupils are encouraged to use creativity and imagination alongside research to design and make products that respond to real and relevant contexts. They consider the needs, wants and values of themselves and others when developing ideas and evaluating their work.
Our curriculum enables pupils to develop practical skills while also understanding key concepts linked to design, function, industry and the wider social and environmental impact of products. Pupils are encouraged to reflect on and evaluate both past and present technology and its impact on everyday life.
Food technology is an important part of our curriculum, helping pupils develop an understanding of where food comes from, the importance of a balanced and healthy diet and how to prepare simple dishes safely and hygienically.
Rooted in Catholic Social Teaching, our Design and Technology curriculum fosters responsibility, stewardship and respect for others by encouraging pupils to consider the impact of design choices on people and the environment and to use their learning to contribute to a more sustainable world.
By the end of Key Stage 2, pupils are confident, creative designers who can plan, make and evaluate products, applying practical skills and thoughtful decision-making.
