Computing
Back“God does not want us to be in disorder but in harmony and peace.” - 1 Corinthians 14:33
Computing helps us understand and create logical systems, solve problems, and use technology responsibly for the good of others.
At St Bernadette Primary School, our Computing curriculum is designed to prepare pupils for life in an increasingly digital world. We aim to develop confident, responsible, and creative users of technology who can apply their skills across a range of contexts.
Pupils develop knowledge and skills across computer science, information technology, and digital literacy. Learning is carefully sequenced from Early Years to Year 6, ensuring pupils build on prior knowledge and become increasingly confident in using technology to create, communicate, and solve problems.
In the Early Years Foundation Stage, children begin to explore technology through play and guided activities, developing early understanding of how it is used in the world around them. From Key Stage 1 onwards, pupils have regular computing lessons following the Teach Computing Curriculum, which provides clear progression in key areas such as programming, data handling, and digital communication. Pupils are encouraged to think logically, work creatively, and apply their learning in meaningful contexts.
Online safety is a central part of our Computing curriculum. We use ProjectEVOLVE to deliver a structured and progressive online safety curriculum, ensuring pupils understand how to use technology safely, respectfully, and responsibly. This is supported by a whole-school approach, including dedicated lessons, assemblies, and cross-curricular links.
Rooted in Catholic Social Teaching, our Computing curriculum encourages pupils to use technology in a way that values dignity and contributes positively to their communities.
By the end of Key Stage 2, pupils are digitally literate and equipped with the knowledge and skills to use technology safely, effectively, and with confidence in the next stage of their education.
