“God looked at everything he had made, and he was very pleased.” – Genesis 1:31

Art allows us to reflect God’s creativity and recognise the beauty and dignity of creation.

At St Bernadette Primary School, we value Art and Design as an important part of a broad and balanced curriculum. Our Art curriculum is designed to engage, inspire and challenge pupils, while developing creativity, independence and the ability to reflect on their own work.

Pupils develop a sense of wonder and curiosity about the world around them and gain an understanding of their own and other cultures. This is supported through the study of a diverse range of artists, designers and architects from different times and backgrounds.

Our curriculum provides opportunities for pupils to develop their skills in drawing, painting, printing and sculpture. Learning is carefully sequenced so that pupils build on prior knowledge and become increasingly confident in experimenting with materials, techniques and ideas to create their own artwork.

Rooted in Catholic Social Teaching, our Art curriculum promotes dignity and respect for creativity by encouraging pupils to value artistic expression as a way of understanding and celebrating the world.

By the end of Key Stage 2, pupils are confident and reflective young artists who can explore ideas, develop skills and express themselves creatively through a range of artistic processes.
